Great minds say you have to have the courage to be.
The courage to be. When you hear these words combined, don’t they sound terribly off? Shouldn’t to be come naturally and effortlessly, a spontaneous expression of simply being alive?
Yet the more you think about that, the more obvious it becomes how much courage a person has to have to be oneself.
If man had no problem with being who he is, what would his life look like?
What is a man if he isn’t in defiance of himself? It seems as if the core of the human condition is a tension between what man chooses to act as and what he truly is.
Everyone performs to a certain level. Even those who claim to be authentic. Perhaps especially those.
Consciousness only gains its full power when it accepts and masters the unconscious. I wonder, how much of what we believe to be our choice and our intentional moving through life is simply a layer of mechanics, a play of energies we can’t comprehend with our mind; a cycle of resistance, friction, and release. A game of linear movement on the plain horizontal field, when all clues, secrets, and fun lie on the vertical lines.
It’s consciousness trying to learn about the many layers that create it, but we call it ‘failing in life’.
It is easier to just go along with the wave of performance than to stay rooted in yourself and experience resistance from others, and your mind, as the energies of the room are being realigned; as the energies within yourself begin to form a dialogue. A tense walk between staying who you’ve been, and being who you are.
What about those universal underlying forces that pull us towards many different sides?
What about truths that oppose each other? When to love oneself means to hurt someone, and to hurt someone is how you hurt yourself the most.
Spirit wants to express itself through us. To express whatever is true. When we perform, we betray the essence that builds us. So a polite smile hurts. A nice word cuts. Distance and silence may slightly burn your skin on the outside, and at the same time, heal the cuts made in the deepest parts you carry.
We can’t escape or heal form a paradox because we are one.
My only wish for you – is to have the courage to be.
